Targets

Set target types, frequencies and target values for KPIs, Key Results and Initiatives.

ℹ️ Available on all plans.

Every KPI, Key Result and Initiative has a target: The value you want to reach, or the threshold you want to stay on the right side of. The target type decides how Perdoo reads the target value, and the frequency decides how often you update the goal and set targets.

Choose a target type

Choose the Target type when you add a KPI, Key Result or Initiative. KPIs, Key Results and Initiatives all have the same six target types:

  • Increase to: For goals that should go up over time, such as revenue, MRR or the number of active users.

  • Decrease to: For goals that should go down over time, such as the number of open bugs, backlog size or CO2 emissions.

  • Stay at or above: For goals that must not drop below a threshold, such as gross profit margin or NPS.

  • Stay at or below: For goals that must not rise above a threshold, such as employee turnover or churn rate.

  • Binary: For something that is either done or not done, such as keeping an ISO certification.

  • Milestone: For incremental progress from 0% to 100%, such as a system migration.

With Increase to and Decrease to, the status compares the actual value with the expected value on that date. With Stay at or above and Stay at or below, the status compares the actual value with the threshold.

Set the frequency

The frequency decides how often you update a goal, and how the target table under the Progress over time chart is split into periods. You can choose Weekly, Biweekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Every 4 months, Every 6 months or Annually.

  1. Open the goal.

  2. Click the frequency at the top of the goal, for example Monthly (1).

  3. Select a frequency.

When you add a goal, you set the frequency in How often will you update this goal? under Advanced options. See Update frequency per goal.

Set target values

Each column in the table under the Progress over time chart is one period of the goal's frequency, and the bottom row holds the targets (2).

  1. Open the goal.

  2. In the table under the Progress over time chart, click + in a period to add a target, or click a target to change it.

  3. For Increase to or Decrease to, enter a Start value and a Target value. For Stay at or above or Stay at or below, enter a Threshold value.

  4. Click Save.

To set one target for several periods, drag across the target cells to merge them. For example, give a KPI a monthly frequency so you update it every month, and merge the cells of each quarter to set quarterly targets.

Good to know

Do targets work the same for KPIs, Key Results and Initiatives?

Yes. KPIs, Key Results and Initiatives have the same target types, frequencies and target table. KPIs run all year, while Key Results and Initiatives also have a Timeframe, such as a quarter.

Why can't I select some frequencies?

Frequencies longer than the goal's Timeframe aren't available. For example, a Key Result that runs for one quarter can't be updated every 6 months.

Can I change the target value of a Binary or Milestone goal?

No. The target of a Binary goal is always True, and a Milestone goal always runs from 0% to 100%.
