Microsoft Power BI integration

Update your goals with Power BI data, or pull Perdoo data into Power BI.

ℹ️ Available on Supreme.

Perdoo works with Power BI in two directions. Let a dataset in Power BI update your goals in Perdoo automatically, or pull your goals from Perdoo into Power BI to build your own reports.

Once connected, Perdoo updates the goal for you as often as its sync frequency says. For more about progress drivers, see Progress drivers.

Connect Power BI

  1. Find Power BI and click Enable.

  2. Click Connect. If your Microsoft admin needs to approve the app, submit the request.

  3. Sign in to Power BI with an account that has access to the semantic model you want to use.

  4. Click Finish.

Superadmins can also connect Power BI in Configure > Integrations. After you connect it, click Settings (1) to choose whether your connection is private or shared with everyone.

Update a goal with Power BI

  1. Open the KPI, Key Result, or Initiative. To set it up while you add a goal, open Advanced options.

  2. In the Details panel, click Progress driver.

  3. Select Integration and choose Power BI.

  4. Select your Connection.

  5. Select the Dataset and enter a DAX query that returns the value you want to track. See Write a DAX query.

  6. Check the preview.

  7. Click Save & Sync now.

Write a DAX query

DAX is the query language of Power BI. The easiest way to get a query is to copy it from a visual in your report:

  1. Open the report in Power BI Desktop.

  2. Go to the Optimize tab and click Performance Analyzer.

  3. Click Start recording.

  4. Select the visual you want the value from and click Analyze this visual.

  5. Copy the query.

To learn more, see Writing DAX queries.

Pull Perdoo data into Power BI

Use our Power BI script to load data from Perdoo into Power BI and build your own reports and dashboards. The script uses our GraphQL API, so you can add any data the API supports. See our API documentation and the API integration.

To add more fields, add them to the queryText variable in the script. You can explore all fields in Apollo Studio.

Good to know

How often does Perdoo fetch the latest value?

As often as the goal's sync frequency says, for example daily or weekly. Every sync adds a progress update, even if the value hasn't changed. To update sooner, click Update on the goal.

What happens if the connection stops working?

You get an email, and the goal shows a red connection error. Reconnect Power BI in Personal settings > Integrations.

Can others update a goal that uses my private connection?

Yes. Anyone who can update the goal can fetch the latest value, but only you can change the connection's settings.

Why can't I find a dataset that was shared with me?

The list only shows datasets you own. To use a shared dataset, enter its ID.

What data can I pull into Power BI?

The goals you can see in Perdoo. Each goal has an id field, which you can use to build your data model and to link back to the goal in Perdoo.

What if we use Strict authentication with SSO?

Contact our Support team. You need a different kind of token for the script.
