Create and manage Performance Review cycles

Organize Performance Reviews in a cycle, set Reviewers, and create the next cycle of recurring reviews.

ℹ️ Available on Supreme.

Review cycles help you organize multiple Performance Reviews around a shared deadline. Use a cycle to manage participants, assign reviewers, and keep your review process together in one place.

Create a review cycle

  1. Click + New cycle.

  2. Enter the cycle's name, description, deadline, and repeat frequency. Hover over the info icons for help with the Deadline, Repeat frequency, and Cycle admins fields.

  3. Choose the Cycle admins who will manage the cycle.

  4. Under Participants, click Add participant and select the people being reviewed. You can search by name, role, or team, or use Select all.

  5. Save the cycle.

Each review has a Reviewer. By default, this is the participant's Reviewer from their user settings, or their manager if no Reviewer is set. You can change the Reviewer for an individual review from the cycle's details.

Set a default Reviewer for a user

ℹ️ This requires Admin or Superadmin rights.

In many organizations, the person who writes a Performance Review isn't the direct manager. For example, a department head might review everyone in their department. Set a Reviewer for these users so new reviews are assigned to the right person automatically.

  1. Open the user's settings.

  2. In the Reviewer field, select the person who should review this user.

  3. Save.

When you add this user to a review cycle, the Reviewer field is used first. If it's empty, Perdoo uses the user's manager.

Manage access with cycle admins

Anyone can create a review cycle. The person who creates it automatically becomes a cycle admin.

Cycle admins can manage their cycles and add other cycle admins. Their administrative permissions apply within those cycles, rather than across all Performance Reviews.

People without HR admin permissions only see the cycles they administer in the Review cycles area. HR admins retain access to all cycles, including cycles without an assigned cycle admin.

View and edit a cycle

The Review cycles list groups your cycles into three sections: Recurring, Active, and Completed. Each cycle shows its participants, completion, due date, and repeat frequency.

Click View cycle to see its individual Performance Reviews, including the person being reviewed and their Reviewer. Reviews are sorted by the reviewee's name.

Use Edit cycle to update the cycle's name, repeat frequency, or due date.

Complete a review cycle

When the cycle is finished, open it and click Complete cycle. You can complete a cycle even when some individual reviews are still unfinished.

ℹ️ A completed cycle is read-only. Outstanding reviews stop appearing as reviews to complete, but completing the cycle doesn't individually mark those reviews as completed.

Completed cycles are available in the Completed section. If the cycle repeats, a draft of the next cycle appears under Recurring. See Create the next recurring cycle.

Create the next recurring cycle

When you complete a cycle with a repeat frequency, Perdoo adds a draft of the next cycle to the Recurring section (1). The draft shows its due date, which moves forward by the repeat frequency. For example, when you complete a yearly cycle due January 31, 2027, the draft is due January 31, 2028.

  1. Under Recurring, find the draft of the next cycle (1).

  2. Click Create (3) to set up the next cycle. If you don't want the cycle to repeat anymore, click Stop repeating (2).

Saving answers and completing reviews

Saving draft answers, submitting answers, completing an individual review, and completing a review cycle are separate actions. Save answers as a draft while preparing a review, and submit them when you're ready.

Good to know

Who is the Reviewer of a Performance Review?

The person set in the reviewee's Reviewer field. If that field is empty, it's the reviewee's manager. You can always change the Reviewer of an individual review from the cycle's details.

Why don't older recurring cycles show up under Recurring?

Only recurring cycles completed after this change was released in November 2026 get a draft for their next cycle. This keeps old, finished reviews from showing up as drafts.
